US condemns attempt on negotiator in Afghanistan

An attempt to disrupt the peace process was called by US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad an attack on human rights activist and participant in the Afghan government negotiating group Fawzia Kufi. The statement was published on August 16 on Khalilzad's Twitter page. The US Special Representative for Afghanistan called the attack on Fawzia Kufi in Kabul a cowardly and criminal act that was committed to disrupt the peace process in the country. Khalilzad condemned the attack and noted that the human rights activist was not seriously injured. In turn, Afghan law enforcement authorities regarded the attack on Kufi as an attempted murder. According to a number of Afghan media, negotiations between the government of the country and representatives of the radical terrorist movement Taliban (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation) will start on August 16. Earlier, the news agency reported on the signing by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani of a decree on the release of 400 especially dangerous detained Taliban militants (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation). Their release was put forward by the Taliban (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation) as the main condition for starting negotiations on restoring peace in the country. The process of releasing the militants was begun on August 15.
