End-to-end encryption will be available to all Zoom users
The American company Zoom will make the end-to-end encryption of video conferencing available to all users, Zoom CEO Eric Yuan said on the company's blog. Zoom has submitted preliminary plans to implement end-to-end encryption at the end of May. Then it was assumed that this service will be available only to owners of paid subscriptions. This decision was criticized by representatives of public organizations and cybersecurity specialists. Eric Yuan said that after a series of consultations at Zoom, they decided to make this service available to all users. At the same time, the owners of free accounts to activate end-to-end encryption will need to perform some actions to verify the account (for example, confirm it using a message on a mobile phone). Zoom plans to start testing end-to-end encryption in July 2020. It is noted that the service will use AES 256 GCM block encryption, which is considered one of the strictest encryption standards. As previously reported by the news agency, in May, Zoom acquired a Keybase startup specializing in information security.
