Despite growing unemployment, Sweden is reforming the Employment Service

Along with the rise in unemployment, which reached record levels due to the pandemic of coronavirus infection, the reform of the Swedish State Employment Service is proceeding according to the schedule. In turn, representatives of trade unions consider the actions of the authorities untimely. This was announced on June 17 by the Swedish news service Sveriges Radio. According to Swedish Secretary of State Roger Mertwick, the increase in unemployment has not affected the schedule for the planned reform. Recall that the department expects that by next spring the number of people who have lost their jobs will be more than 600,000 people. Despite this, Mertvik said that, as planned, the Swedish State Employment Service will be relieved of state control and transferred to the control of government-independent entities by 2022. However, one of the many leaders of the union Britta Lejon, representing the interests of the organization of doctors and dentists, absolutely disagrees with him. Reform must be put on hold, and the government must understand that unemployment is rising. Resources should be allocated, and priority should be given to helping the unemployed, Lejon said.
